Law School: It’s PROFESSOR Barack Obama

Remember how, when Clinton was up against the ropes in her Bosnia lie, her campaign sent an email arguing that Obama has exaggerated his status as a Senior Lecturer by calling himself a Law Professor?

Turns out the University of Chicago Law School has something to say on the topic, in a statement they titled, Statement Regarding Professor Barack Obama (emphasis added).

The Law School has received many media requests about Barack Obama, especially about his status as “Senior Lecturer.” From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School’s Senior Lecturers have high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined.

So it turns out, my explanation was wrong. I suggested that there wasn’t a “vast distinction” between the two titles, and that Obama may have legitimately used the phrase “professor” for convenience. As it turned out, “professor” was the right term.

Update I: Snark from Wonkette:

It is nauseating that Barack Obama, having lied so horribly and blatantly about his so-called “professional experience,” has now sucked one of the nation’s best law schools into his Web of Untruth. Shame on you, Barack Obama!

Update II: Lawrence Lessig reminding folks of his speech in Pennsylvania today, said this:

Barack was a colleague of mine when I taught at the University of Chicago (and yes, Hillary Clinton, he WAS a professor at the University of Chicago). I am grateful for the chance to return to Penn to help support this extraordinary man.

She lied.

Then she lied about lying.

Then lied about lying about lying.

Now it turns out she even lied about Obama lying too?

Hillary’s really on a roll!

Why do people continue to be surprised about the depths that the Clinton camp will go to win? What part of “by any means necessary” do people not understand? Hillary would eat puppies on national tv if it would get her superdelegates.

My sense is, the remaining superdelegates know which way the wind is blowing at this point. I think we’re going to see a steady trickle of superdelegates pledging support for Obama before Pennsylvania, and then a flood after (as there are no more “firewalls” left for her).

Also, interesting news yesterday, a report on donations by Obama and Clinton’s respective PACs found that Obama’s has given three times as much money to other campaigns ans Clinton has. It also found:

the presidential candidate who gave more money to the superdelegates received their endorsements 82 percent of the time.

Obviously, of all the factors we’d like superdelegates to use to inform their decision, this isn’t exactly at the top of the list. (Hence, why we need movements like change congress.)

Where do the polling numbers put her if she ate puppies on national television? How is the media supposed to make up the minds of the populace without good polling numbers? We need answers, blogosphere!

Incidentally, I was watching Fox News this morning for a laugh (it was too early for cartoons), and they were talking about how the media is causing the recession. The truthiness of that is bad for two reasons:

If they are correct, then they the media is in fact hurting America.
If they are incorrect, then the media have delusions of power and import which I care not to stomach on a weekend.
